Start with one specimen

Draw a leaf, seed or branch from several angles before adding paint. Record its size and where you found it without removing protected material. Observation matters more than a polished botanical plate.

Control the water

Use a limited palette and test wetness on a spare sheet. Let one layer dry before adding another when you need crisp edges. A travel brush and small water container are enough for a short session.

Build a seasonal record

Return to the same general spot at intervals and compare colour, growth and weather. Date your pages. If you do not know a species, describe its visible features and verify identification later.
